I bought these mats in the tomato pattern to match my kitchen. They looked beautiful -- until I washed them and hung them to dry. The check pattern side, which is a heavy fabric, came out fine. However, the lighter weight tomato side looks like I salvaged these from a dumpster. No amount of spray or steam ironing will smooth the fabric. The "wrinkled" tomatoes now have faded lines running through them. Ugh!
The problem with these placemats is the different weight fabrics on the two sides. If both sides were the weight of the check material, they would have washed beautifully. As useless as these placemats have become for me, they might be a great purchase for someone who wants to use them only for show.
