I wear my Z1's 8 months out of the year and my toecoop's during the coldest winter months. I've been wanting a little more freedom so I decided to go without the heel strap and I've really been enjoying it. It's definitely been taking some getting used to. I can't wear them as loose as I prefer but it is nice to just slip them on and off freely. I wouldn't depend on these year round or in any serious hiking situations but they are great for the casual Chaco wearer. I'd definitely give them a shot if you like to wear the least amount of shoe possible like me!

Answer The sandal does not have the strap that goes around the back of the heel. This sandal has an EcoTread siped rubber outsoles. The Z1 Unaweep has Vibram® Unaweep outsoles.
