High quality backpack that is light weight & supportive. Easy access to all compartments with great design thoughts built in. The secondary top flap closure is highly innovative so main lid can be removed for ease & lighter weight. Keeps the elements out of the top access drawstring bag closure. 5 S... Read More

One would probably think for as often as I use this pack, I must absolutely love it. I like it very much but actually don't love it. Everything about it is perfect except how the support brace presses into my back. I pulled it out and used it like that, which relieved the pressure but (not surprisingly) didn't provide the structure the pack really needed. I've made a number of various adjustments that seem to be making the back brace a bit more comfortable, but it's something potential buyers should keep in mind. The brace that runs down the center back of the pack is a wide metal strip that has pronounced curves/bends. If they don't match up just right with your spine, it will put uncomfortable pressure on your back. I've had to do quite a bit of fussing with it.

Regardless, this is what I prefer to use for 1-3 night trips when traveling by air or train or when car camping, and it's what I use for long day hikes. (I use my more substantial Gregory pack for backpacking.) The top part is removable, which saves bulk/weight on day trips. The bag is well designed as far as pockets and such are concerned. The big outer pocket is great for keeping things you want quick and easy access to, and there are convenient internal pockets as well. Weight is nicely distributed as well.

I would definitely recommend with the caveat of being careful with that back brace.

Very light weight and probably great for longer trips, but I am a one night backpacker and this backpack was lacking in comfort. To make this pack weigh so little mountain hardwear had to skimp on the waist padding, I had major bruising and chaffage after only 6 miles. The internal frame juts out in the center of the back lining creating a metal point of pressure, that also caused me much pain. A month after I tried out this pack I still have a scar on my lower back from the frame rubbing into my spine. The outer material is very well made, it's light weight and looks delicate but it can withstand a lot of hiking through brush. This may be a great pack for a multiday trip in that it's really light weight but it's not for me.

Maybe production error but after 1 month traveling the seams were ripping. Nice lightweight pack otherwise but had to return.

Got delivery of this backpack, but initially I do not like the fabric at all. It is stiff and thin. Feels like a cheap off-brand pack. However, since it is a Mountain Hardware brand, AND got top ratings from four reviewers, I will reserve final judgement until I actually use it. Wanted to put my snowshoes on the sides and poles on the front, which is why I bought it, but have not yet tried it out. Perhaps it is because I am used to the old-fashioned heavier cordora packs?
