The pants are great for warm hiking or with an under layer, for cooler temps as well. The back belt loop is off center but with the price that STP had, I'll keep them. Nylon is light, dries quickly, and zippers are well made.

I spent a lot of time researching convertible pants, looking for a lightweight pair that would stand up to long summer hikes and pack small. I bought a pair of these and was so impressed with the quality that I just bought this second pair. I haven't found another brand that matches the Columbia PFG for value. Other than the lack of side zipper on the lower legs, I have no criticisms of the fit, fabric, or finish. Well worth the money.

These are very light summer weight pants. They are a bit baggy from the waist down. The back of the pants belt loop was sewn n to the right of the rear center seam. Be aware that they have mesh pockets in front and only a left rear pocket.

Columbia is a quality brand, and these convertible pants live up to the company's reputation. I purchased these based on a recommendation from a helpful Sierra Trading Post representative. I will be using the pants on a section hike of the Appalachian Trail, and need pants that are rugged, lightweight, comfortable on the trail, and which can double as hiking shorts. The PFG convertible pants fit the bill. The fit and finish are first rate; seams are strong, stress points are reinforced, and pockets are properly placed. For the price, you will be hard-pressed to find a better value. The sizing seems just a bit large. My waist is 40-41 inches, but I found the Large size just right. My only quibbles are the lack of a left hip pocket and the lack of a side zipper on the leg sections to assist in removing over boots. But, considering the overall quality of the pants, I'm not complaining.
