These may not be the most fashionable, but they are very useful. I wore these when I was hiking in the desert where the mornings started off cold, but by the afternoon it was quite hot. The zip-off feature was great for this because I could stay warm at the beginning of the day and zip off the pant legs when it started to get hot. I highly recommend these if you are looking for zip-off hiking pants.

The fabric is heavier than his last pair, but Columbia seems to always have nice quality.

I backpack. I like to try to look good when I'm doing it. These fit the bill. Don't get me wrong -- if it ain't to my specs, I won't wear it on the trail. I will wear ugly stuff, if it's the right tool for the job. These pants just look good, and they meet my demanding expectations. They're of the quality I expect from Columbia; comfortable, and well-made of quality materials. I own several pieces of gear baring their logo and do expect its value. With these, combined with the excellent value STP offers, I recommend them highly. Buy two.

    • Answer As with most all Columbia convertible pants that I've purchased, the shorts come down my thigh a bit more than half way. I to have long legs. These pants make excellent Fall, Winter and Spring pants ... also fine in summer at higher altitudes with cooler termps,

  • Question “Do these pants have elastic in the waist?”

    • Answer There is not elastic in the waist.
Answered on 4/1/2014 9:58:25 AM by Product Specialist Greg from Sierra Trading Post
    • Answer Unfortunately NOPE! This was a concern form me as well because on long hikes I lose weight and the pants would get too loose. I also bought the white sierra convertible pants in M size (32-35" waist), and they were basically the same price but were a lighter material but they have elastic on each side of the waist. For hiking I'd prefer those. Hope that helps.

  • Question “Do these pants have a cargo pocket on the leg or a zip security pocket?”
Asked on 3/17/2014 9:26:07 PM by Lost Dutchman from Superstition Mountains
    • Answer No, they're not cargo pockets, and are indeed a zip security pocket on the right. By the way, they are the best Colombia convertible pants I've ever purchased ... which is significant. They are very true to size.

    • Answer these pants do not have cargo pockets but it does have a small zipped up pocket right underneath the right pant pocket.
