Most Helpful 5-Star Review

I chose this as a replacement for an ancient Gore-tex shell. I'm 5'8", athletic build at 150#, and the large is great, with room to layer. Nice, perky periwinkle color - it's not overly bright, which can happen when ordering online. The sleeves have adequate length for my long arms, and I like the op... Read More

This is a great jacket! I ordered a large and the sleeves were a little long but other than that it was a great jacket. The jacket has plenty of pockets, it has one located on the sleeve that I just put my lift card in and they just scanned my arm it every time I went on the lift. I just wore a thermal and another long sleeve shirt and stayed warm and dry the whole time.

I really like this jacket which is my first shell jacket. It has expected waterproof ability and more warmth than I expected from a shell, and thus it can be used in chilly and windy days in the city as well. I'm assuming the material is 2-layer Gortex? If so, the softness and functionality reaches a good trade-off point. I bought the pink with some uncertainty, but the color turns out to be brighter in person and really easy to match up with other clothes. If I knew about this jacket earlier, I'd have saved some money buying (too many) insulated jackets which doesn't have Gortex. Also, I mainly bought this for backcountry skiing/hiking, but now I use it in 1F weather on the slopes. I don't feel cold on the lift even when it's super windy, the key is a warm under layer such as a 550 fill light jacket so I won't look bulky.

I ordered this jacket and the Phenix Lattice jacket to decide which one I wanted. The Phenix jacket won out. This Marker jacket is great, but Phenix won out because it's just a better jacket for the money. This one looks great, fits as expected, and has great styling, but it's like every other black jacket on the mountain. I wanted a jacket that was more unique.

The color is exactly as it looked on the site. Fit is tailored so I'm glad I ordered a size 6 when I normally order a 4 so I can fit layers underneath for skiing.

I wore my new Marker jacket yesterday on my daily brisk walk of 1 1/2 hours. It was very windy and 25 degrees. With a couple of light layers underneath the coat cut the wind perfectly and I stayed toasty warm. As the coat claims it is windroof and as a all Gore-tex products claim I am sure it will be waterproof when I need that protection. I have not had a Gore-tex jacket in awhile so I had forgotten how noisy the fabric really can be. It you do not like the crinkle sound this is not the coat for you. The sizing is ample enough for the light layering I need on cold days. I am 135 pounds and 5'2" and purchased the medium and the sizing is good. If you want a form fitting coat this is not the coat for you.

  • Question “Does the hood fit over a helmet?”
Asked on 11/19/2014 5:51:04 PM by Rabbit from Washington
    • Answer Yes, the jacket hood is large with a draw cord half way through it so it comfortably fits over a ski helmet or pulls in when you don't have a ski helmet on. I love this shell, I've bought 3 now... lost two, forgot them a hotel and they were never turned in. Hard to resist I guess, it was great to find it at the Sierra Trading price so I could replace it. I go north or west each winter to teach skiing and this is by far my favorite shell.
Answered on 11/19/2014 7:22:12 PM by Parkersspace from South Carolina
    • Answer yes it does but not completely covering the helmet. However, this is a beautiful jacket that I'm so impressed with. It is much, much better than the picture on the model which does not do it justice. I am very fussy about my ski jacket, this is really nice for the price. love the red color w/white petals. No regrets here.

    • Answer This jacket is not insulated. The size depends on your body measurements. There is a Sizing tab located above for your convenience, or you can view our sizing page here: http://www.sierratradingpost.com/lp2/size-chart/

    • Answer No additional insulation but room to layer which I find more effective for warmth and comfort anyway. I would presume Sz. 6 would work. I'm 118 and 5'7" and the sz. 6 was perfect.
Answered on 1/27/2014 3:09:59 PM by Babs from Maine
    • Answer It is not insulated. If it helps I'm 5'4", 135 pounds and swimming in a 10. It's 17 1\4 inches from shoulder seam to shoulder seam. 22 inches armpit to cuff, and 27 inches from the shoulder to the hem.
Answered on 1/27/2014 4:54:34 PM by Salgal from Washington State
    • Answer You probably want a medium so you can layer if you are doing a sport i.e. skiing. The jacket is just a shell and while wind and moisture are not a factor
there is no insulation. It will be versitle for multiple seasons though.
