I got this pack for my daughter, who is about to turn 8. We took it on a two-night, 16 mile trip. Last summer we tried a one-night using my adult daypack. She didn't want to carry it at all, even nearly empty, because it was uncomfortable and floppy. With this well-fitting pack, she carried 12 pounds on her 60 pound frame the whole way in comfort. It looks like the pack will fit her body for a few years due to its adjustability. However, I think she may outgrow the capacity before the suspension. A 20 degree bag, Thermarest, and warm clothes for two nights basically filled it to capacity. If you want your child to be able to carry gear as well, compression sacks may be in order.
