Obtained these boots just in the nick of time for an arctic front that blew into town. Wore a simple wool sock in 10 degree weather and feet stayed toasty warm. Very lightweight, amazing grip on very slippy surfaces; snow packed trail, grates in the city, even on wet grocery store linoleum! Not a lo... Read More

First, special thanks to all reviewers from extremely cold weather locations. Am moving to Idaho from the Sierra Nevadas and have been trying to plan ahead for the winters farther north. Your candidness was extremely helpful in pushing me toward a decision.

I agonized about purchasing these boots for weeks. So many reviews questioned the sizing--whether the calf circumference or the actual size. Really did not want to have to go through the return process if at all possible. Even went on the Lowa site to see what they recommend for European vs US sizing and tried to apply that to reviewers' comments. Over and over, I just walked away figuring it just wasn't worth taking the risk. But in a moment of weakness, I took the plunge. I usually wear a size 9 dress shoe and have somewhere between a narrow and medium width foot. When I entered size 9 on the site, the warning came up to order down 1/2 size; and of course one of the reviewers talked about having to do the same thing. So I ordered an 8.5 and hoped beyond hope it would work. AND IT DID!!! Yes, it takes awhile to futz with all the laces, but once your foot is in and the boot laced up, it fit wonderfully. Was even able to tuck my pants inside the boot and wore heavy socks with no problem closing the laces in the calf area. Incidentally, the box reads 40--the European size 9/8.5.

So the short answer: wonderful boots at a great sale price. Even went on alternate sites to see if the regular price was as high as STP stated or if it had been inflated to make the sale price look better. Happy to say I found the same boot elsewhere for twice the sale price at STP. Now if it would only snow or rain in the Sierra Nevadas so I could test them out instead of this ridiculous non-winter in the 60s leaving the state more parched than ever.

I really, really wanted to like these boots since they are so cute but they are soo difficult to get in and out of! Since there is no zipper, you have to unlace the boot down to the ankle to get your foot in and out. I don't know how you would be able to keep snow if you walk into deep snow since the tongue of the boot isn't wide enough. Sadly, I need to return.

i really like these boots! they are stylish and comfortable (and do not aggravate my sometimes painful bunions) and kept my feet toasty during the most recent polar vortex.

I've been on the hunt for new winter boots for two years now and finally found a pair that is exactly what I needed.

I have been wearing the same Sorels for years but finally needed to replace them. What I found however in my quest is that most boots are too heavy and clunky or too fashion forward to be practical. Weather in Wisconsin can be bitter cold one day and slushy wet the next, (and I have poor circulation which means my feet are always cold) so I needed boots that were waterproof, very warm and lightweight while still looking cute. A pair I could wear shoveling, sledding with the kids and around town. This pair fit the bill. Like other reviewers mentioned, these boots fit like tennis shoes - conforming to the foot, super comfortable, and super warm. The day they came in the mail, I went out in 9 degree weather with 23 mph winds for an hour to shovel. My feet stayed perfectly warm and I felt stable on the slick ground.

My only concern is that the light leather will get dirty looking in time. I would have liked a little more color contrast in the styling - the stitching, sole and leather are all the same color, but I figure I can always change out the laces.

Other reviewers mention the slim fit in the calf but for me that was a benefit. It is true that it takes more time to tighten and loosen the laces but it is worth the time to have a boot that fits like second skin and keeps my foot and calf toasty. If I know I'm going to be running out for quick jaunts outside, I leave the laces super loose so I can slip in in out quickly. Then when I'm headed out for the day, tighten them up completely. Oh, and the fleece goes down into the foot. So of you tend to pull on your boots barefoot to get the mail in the morning like I tend to do, your feet will still be nice and cozy.

Definitely worth the money. I hope they hold up for years of use.

I don't think it's possible to order boots on line that will fit well. i usually wear a size 7 but these were really big. i never wore them as i put them right back in the box for return. i'm sure they would have been warm and with great traction. the lacing would have been time consuming so once they are on you will want to keep them on.
