Obtained these boots just in the nick of time for an arctic front that blew into town. Wore a simple wool sock in 10 degree weather and feet stayed toasty warm. Very lightweight, amazing grip on very slippy surfaces; snow packed trail, grates in the city, even on wet grocery store linoleum! Not a lo... Read More

Snowbank and cold weather worthy boots. Very comfortable for walking through snow, slush. Order your usual size if you wish to wear thicker socks, but you won't need them since these boots are so well insulated. I didn't find laces an issue and I prefer them actually as this allows for more customization for various situations. Suggest that you pre-spray with silicone to keep the suede protected if you need to deal with salted streets. These boots seem low maintenance and will just need minimal suede care.

I chose these because I was looking for a tall waterproof boot that was practical but also had a little flair. So many winter boots are heavy clunky affairs. These are light and flexible. They look great with a dress. The traction is excellent. And oh, are they toasty! They do run large. I usually wear a nine but ordered the eight and a half. There is plenty of room even with two pairs of socks on. Turns out, the two pairs of socks aren't a necessity. As I said, they are very warm.

I do wish that they had a side zipper in addition to the front lacing. Getting in and out of them is hardly a chore but it would go a faster with a zipper.

These boots are very difficult to put on..they must be completely unlaced to get your foot into the bottom of the boot...
then relaced back up...I was looking for a boot to put on after cross country skiing..and it is just not practical.
I ordered my regular size (8)...the length was ok, but the depth was very large...unfortunately going back!

First, special thanks to all reviewers from extremely cold weather locations. Am moving to Idaho from the Sierra Nevadas and have been trying to plan ahead for the winters farther north. Your candidness was extremely helpful in pushing me toward a decision.

I agonized about purchasing these boots for weeks. So many reviews questioned the sizing--whether the calf circumference or the actual size. Really did not want to have to go through the return process if at all possible. Even went on the Lowa site to see what they recommend for European vs US sizing and tried to apply that to reviewers' comments. Over and over, I just walked away figuring it just wasn't worth taking the risk. But in a moment of weakness, I took the plunge. I usually wear a size 9 dress shoe and have somewhere between a narrow and medium width foot. When I entered size 9 on the site, the warning came up to order down 1/2 size; and of course one of the reviewers talked about having to do the same thing. So I ordered an 8.5 and hoped beyond hope it would work. AND IT DID!!! Yes, it takes awhile to futz with all the laces, but once your foot is in and the boot laced up, it fit wonderfully. Was even able to tuck my pants inside the boot and wore heavy socks with no problem closing the laces in the calf area. Incidentally, the box reads 40--the European size 9/8.5.

So the short answer: wonderful boots at a great sale price. Even went on alternate sites to see if the regular price was as high as STP stated or if it had been inflated to make the sale price look better. Happy to say I found the same boot elsewhere for twice the sale price at STP. Now if it would only snow or rain in the Sierra Nevadas so I could test them out instead of this ridiculous non-winter in the 60s leaving the state more parched than ever.

I really, really wanted to like these boots since they are so cute but they are soo difficult to get in and out of! Since there is no zipper, you have to unlace the boot down to the ankle to get your foot in and out. I don't know how you would be able to keep snow if you walk into deep snow since the tongue of the boot isn't wide enough. Sadly, I need to return.
