Have a few of these for emergency fire starter. You should always consider to have multiple fire sources. Storm proof matches, lighter, and magnesium striker. Will start a fire all the time. Consider using vaseline-soaked cotton balls as tinder.

Wouldn't take backpacking. Too big and heavy compared to the other flints I have bought at STP. It is good to get one for your car and/or hiking pack. I bought a few extra for trinkets to make my friends happy. One is using it to light his home's gas stove.

This is the second one I've ordered. Truly, and indispensable piece of equipment for emergency situations. You should always have several options to make fire. Matches, lighter, and a flint striker like this one. Easily starts a fire using magnesium shavings and then striking sparks.
