Most Helpful 5-Star Review

Photo is deceiving - they aren't as tall as they appear and are slouchy. I double-tie the pom-poms so they don't dangle. I generally am sensitive to wool and was worried these would itch me but somehow I am ok with them, and of course I wear socks with them - they don't fit snugly against the leg,... Read More

HONESTLY, I haven't worn these much yet since it's summer. I am surprised by how heavy the sole is, and now I understand why other reviewers could wear them outside in winter. I have another pair of Giesswein slippers with the removable wool insole, also noted by another reviewer, and these are definitely not the same as those. The sock-like slipper part does not stay up on it's own, but again, the ties can be used to get them to stay up, though the rest still looks a little slouchy. The top comes to midcalf on me, and I am 5'3" with long-ish legs. The foot portion is more snug than the backless slippers I own; I probably will not be able to wear thick socks. Not sure if they are comfortable enough to wear without a thin sock inside... We'll see when the weather turns cooler. My apartment is very cold due to ancient floor to ceiling windows, so these will be great for keeping my feet cozy. Looking forward to trying to wear these like regular boots in the winter! The arch support is approximately the same as the other slippers, in my opinion. Maybe a touch less, since the insole is made differently. Still, comfortable.

The sole is adequate for any trip to the mailbox or brief foray in the yard, and even more. It's quite sturdy for a slipper and wraps up to keep the wool part a little more protected than most. The boiled wool part is thinner than a Haflinger shoe, but it's ok for a slipper. I guess whether the top stays up depends on the shape of your legs--I have enough calf so I can pull the lace tight around the top and they stay there. It does seem a little odd that there isn't the usual cushy footbed, but that's all right too, with me. I can get whatever I like for the bottom. There is a little arch molding in it.

First of all, I like a little arch support in a slipper, since I'm on my feet in the kitchen as much as I'm lounging in luxury in front of the fireplace (ha ha) and these boots are extremely comfortable in that regard. They are also thick, warm, and well constructed. The knitted part provided great texture. The drawstring can be tightened to keep the boot tall, but I rather like letting them slouch a little. It's fun to own such a well-crafted "old world" product like this.

These lodge slippers are very comfortable, cozy, and super stylish! As a matter of fact, I wear them as winter boots, and I get lots of compliments! The quality is great and the fact that these are made from wool, a natural material, makes me even happier!
