I haven't tested this pack for what I hope is its ultimate purpose (carrying my DSLR and very large 100-400mm lens, but I took it on a day hike this past weekend with a load that was similar in terms of weight. I was very happy with how wel the pack handled a fairly heavy (15+ pound) load in the waist pack configuration. The combination of the wide hip belt and shoulder harness system made this exceptionally comfortable to wear. The pack seems to be very well constructed and I expect to get many years of use out of it. I only have a few very minor gripes about the pack. One is that it's heavy, but part of the reason for that is that it has so many features and configurations, so I definitely am willing to give it a pass on the weight. The second is that the side pockets are underneath the side cinch straps, which not only limits access to them with the straps tightened down, but it also means you may not be able to cinch the straps tight if you have something crushable in the pockets. Third, the zipper pulls that open the lower compartment and the zipper pulls that allow you to expand the pack into a full day pack are right next to each other and look the same, making it really easy to grab the wrong zipper. making one set of zipper pulls a different color would easily solve this issue, and it's likely that I'm going to make such a modification myself.

Somewhat over engineered with over 20 different plastic buckles. The outside rear pouch with the logo on it is of little use as when it is used the pack becomes too heavy and over balances ...twisting on its axis around your waist.

Getting the hang just right also takes a fair amount of adjustment.

The side pouches on the hip belt are too small to hold anything much ( a PLB wont fit )

The flip out panel to hold additional gear outside of the pack is a great idea, could be improved by being blaze though.

Unit has no hydration bladder compatability.

Well thats all the negative stuff, on a better note the pack is very well made and a lot of thought has gone in to its construction, and it is good value for money!

Like all gear nuts though the search for the perfect pack is still on. ......and probably doesnt exist

Well made but I found shoulder straps uncomfortable in back due to mesh connector holding the straps together. The belt pockets need to be larger as they can barely hold a GPS or ammunition.

Was able to pack elk quarters out with no problem using just what's built in to this pack.
