This is my 3rd short-sleeved Icebreaker t-shirt. This one feels slightly heavier weight than my previous two Icebreaker shirts, which were very thin. This wasn't a problem but i like the slightly heavier weave. It is very soft on the skin and seems to have more elasticity than my previous shirts.... Read More

I pre-washed and line dried it as instructions said to do. When I first put on this tee, I liked the way it fit me. I went on a over-night backpack trip and it felt a little scratchy for about the first 2 hours of the hike. After that, I forgot I was even wearing a shirt. Highly recommended to own a merino wool tee. I did not sweat too much since the weather was a little cooler but when I did sweat, I did not feel wet.

This is my 3rd short-sleeved Icebreaker t-shirt. This one feels slightly heavier weight than my previous two Icebreaker shirts, which were very thin. This wasn't a problem but i like the slightly heavier weave. It is very soft on the skin and seems to have more elasticity than my previous shirts. I'm 5'9" and about 170 lbs and the medium fit well, neither loose nor tight. Apart from the warmth and comfort, I've grown to appreciate the deodorant properties of merino wool base-layer shirts. I first noticed this on a 5-night Smith River, Montana, float trip in early July during which I kept waiting for the bouquet that tells me it's time to change t-shirts. At day 5 I asked my wife to take a whiff of the shirt (I took it off) and she said there was only a faint odor of the deodorant I had used the morning of our launch. She's not reluctant to tell me when I'm becoming offensive in any way. I think there would be a decent market for synthetic or cotton outdoor and recreational shirts that have merino wool fabric just in the armpits.

One caveat is that I haven't babied the shirts when I wash them, using regular TIde He detergent, and it seems to me that the deodorant properties diminish after a quite a few washings. I imagine regular detergent is hard on the natural oils in the wool. I've decided to follow a gentler washing approach with this shirt. I never machine dry the shirts. I just hang them in my closet damp and, in our relatively dry climate, they're dry in a few hours.

This is my third Icebreaker t shirt from Sierra. I just wash and dry them like a normal shirt and they look and feel great. They'll work out great hiking this summer.

haven't tested this out from a technical perspective yet, but can vouch that it is as comfortable and fits as well as any t-shirt I have ever owned (and it should for the price) - i'm 6'1" #190 and the large is perfect. given all the other great reviews, I have no reason to think it won't perform in the heat.
