it is a pole, it goes together easily, i bought it as a lightweight center pole for tarp camping but i suppose you might be able to find someone buried in snow with it - which is what it is supposed to be for. not sure we are going to see any more snow in California, but i am ready anyhow.

    The joining cable broke the 3rd time I assembled these. I was in the middle of an avalanche search class. These should NOT be trusted.
