This is the first "nice" mat that I bought myself after having used the cheap sticky mats from Target for years and sadly it was a huge disappointment. The smell was such (even after extensive airing and washing) that I found myself having to apologize to my neighbors--imagine a cross between setting a car tire on fire and a smoker's home. Then there was the actual experience of practicing on the mat which was horrible. My hands slipped as soon as I started to sweat at all which was disappointing but what was most frustrating was that even my feet slipped. Needless to say my practice time with this mat was anything but grounding and relaxing. Stay far, far away at any price.

I've been using this for several weeks now and am very happy with it. It is not cushy at all, and it weighs about the same or maybe even a little more than a standard closed-cell foam yoga mat, but the surface is really nice and grippy, and that is what I want most. No slipping! It seems like the more I use it the grippier it gets. The natural rubber odor is noticeable but not horrible like a chemical smell, and it is definitely lessening over time. My only other comment is that it feels cold when I first sit down on it but that quickly goes away and I don't notice it for the rest of the class. I love the "brilliant" blue color -- just right. I'm so happy to get this for a great price on STP!

I have this mat in green, and I have used it for travel for the past 7 years. I wanted to let other viewers know that for some people this is a worthwhile purchase. Yes, thinner, and yes has a fragrance from natural rubber.....but to me this smells way better than synthetic and using a neutral cleaner with essential oil, air dry outdoors has worked excellent for me, it has never bothered me. IMO, cleans up better than the synthetics and this mat gives me excellent grip and stability to ground well. I do prefer the thinner mats and my at-home mat is not much thicker than this one as I feel that the squishier the surface the less stability you will have. If you need a thicker mat to rest your knees on, probably not the mat for you, if you are looking for stability I would recommend for travel purposes. I have rolled and even folded is up to fit in various bags for light weight freedom. I will continue to travel with this mat.
