This was a gift for my son, as he had talked about setting up a zip-line. It is very solid, and as a professional mechanical engineer, I looked it over and would trust my life to it. The latching mechanism seems pretty foolproof, at least to me. Once loaded with weight, I don't see how it could open. It also would make hooking into a zip line a very quick and easy process.

The picture is a little deceptive, as the one I purchased as a gift doesn't have a thumb button. I haven't tried it out yet, but a climbing partner to my son and myself saw it and said he wanted one and asked if he could help my son set up a zip line.

I use this for rope zip lines and it works great. The wheels are steel so it will work for cable also.
The quick release is an awesome feature and the close out price is almost a steal.
    Great product!!
