I find these socks misnamed. They are labeled as light cushioning, but it is quite a bit in my opinion. I like them for running outdoors in the winter as well as wearing them as everyday socks on cold days. They probably would be a bit too much for warm days. They would serve well as hiking socks to... My first pair of SmartWools and I am sold for life. So great.

I love all the phd smartwool socks. I wear low cuts in the summer and these in the winter. Works great with cowboy boots or Timbs. I use light thickness for three seasons and ultra light on those super hot days or in running shoes. They are comfy, breathable, and warm in the winter. They also last a long time -- the only reason I keep buying more is that people borrow them and never give them back!

This is my 3rd time ordering these smart wool socks. I'm 75 and have a fair amount of foot problems; bunions, calluses, corns etc. These socks give just the right cushioning to help alleviate a lot of what would be pain. Thanks Smart Wool.

Usually Sierra Trading Post's shipping is spot on for what I have ordered. However, this time they missed the boat completely. They send the wrong socks, the wrong color and the wrong size. The socks don't cost as much as the return shipping, so I'll just keep what they sent but I'm definitely not pleased.

I ordered these in Silver #6325J-01-M. The toe box is large causing an overstuffed feeling in my shoe. It is not as rounded / tapered as other SmartWool socks I own. I have a narrow, thin foot. They might work better for someone with a wider foot.

  • Question “I see a bullet point on merino wool items that states: "Limit 12 per year"
    What does that mean please?

    Thanks for your help.”

Asked on 11/27/2015 7:11:22 AM by Lynda merino wool lover from S F Bay Area California
    • Answer I believe it means you can only buy 12 of this style a year. Not sure as I've never bought that many!

    • Answer I believe it means you only get to order 12 pairs of this specific sock per year. I like Smartwool socks so much, and wear them almost every day, so I have ordered 10 pairs at a time when I found the sock I liked best. I think that STP put this limit up for some reason, not sure why.

  • Question “What shoe size is a large?”

Asked on 4/30/2014 4:27:13 PM by Alison from Texas
    • Answer I wear size medium (7- 9.5.) Not sure about large, but most likely 9.5 and up?
Answered on 4/30/2014 5:51:13 PM by Ellie from VA
    • Answer According to SmartWool's website, the Large, in a woman's sock, is a Woman's shoe size 10-12.5, which is a pretty big foot.
I wear a Woman's shoe size 7.5 or 8 which, according to their size chart, should be a Medium.
I prefer to wear SmartWool sock size Small because I find the sizing to be very "generous".
If I wear the Medium, as they suggest, they seem to shift around a bit in my shoes and tend to "bunch up" in places.

Since these are made specifically for a woman's foot, I'm not sure what the equivalent size in Men's would be.
I think the foot "volume" is smaller than a man's, even if the equivalent length is established.
I've tried SmartWool's unisex socks and found they don't work well for me for that reason.
