I haven't purchased this pack, but I'm a US Marine and this looks identical to what the USMC issues to us. I've used it many times at work including deployments. It works for the USMC, but no way would I recommend it for personal use. Priorities for the USMC are very different than priorities for... Read More

I haven't purchased this pack, but I'm a US Marine and this looks identical to what the USMC issues to us. I've used it many times at work including deployments. It works for the USMC, but no way would I recommend it for personal use. Priorities for the USMC are very different than priorities for a typical backpacker/hiker. For example, the materials on these packs are THICK and durable, zippers are big, bells & whistles are minimized; the USMC wants these things to last 10+ years as they get abused and passed around from one person to the next. This is one size fits all and doesn't have a lot of adjustment potential. The pack has no support framing in the back and the waist belt isn't comfortable at all because we often have to carry these over our very thick body armor which completely changes the dimensions of how it sits on our body. I have a couple of daypacks I purchased from STP, both were purchased for significantly less than this pack is currently listed for, and both are many times better for my day hiking or backpacking excursions.
