We've used it twice, and I love it. The dog likes the easy fit and unhampered legs. He could care less about getting wet - its me that likes less toweling off at home! Pros: Plentiful reflective cording and graphics, chest coverage, ample hindquarters drop and the very easy to adjust neck and waist ... Read More

The best part of this coat is it covers the belly. When my little dog wit short legs goes out in the rain her belly gets soaked. It has rear leg loops to keep it in position. High quality lightweight, ripstop nylon and a light mesh lining. The fabric also had reflective highlights.

I never actually got to use this product because it turned out to be too small for my dog and I had to return it.. But it looked to be a well made product and the reflective stripes are great. It comes with a little hanger for storage. The fabric did seem a bit on the light side so if your dog is rough, it may tear the fabric. But bear in mind I didn't actually use the product; sadly, my dog's size was not available.

I needed rain coats for my three small dogs that wasn't bulky or insulated as I live in Florida. This coat was exactly what I was looking for. They are Chinese Cresteds and have a body shape similar to Italian Greyhounds, so they can be hard to fit. I took their topline measurement and two of them were 14" from base of neck to base of tail. I ordered the 14 for them and it was too big. The size 12 fit perfectly. I attribute this to the fact that they are hairless and have a slender build and, therefore, don't take up a lot of the coat on the sides. I ordered the 11 for my dog whose topline measured 12" and it fits well, too.

We live on the coast of Oregon where rain is a given and our Bichon Frise hate get wet. I have bought several dog raincoats from the local retailers and more from Ebay and Amazon and none have fit as well as the Hurtta. Hopefully they will hold up and last a long time.

The new adoptee was underweight and got chilled in our early spring weather, so we opted for this raincoat. It is terrific. Materials and construction are first-rate and the fit could not be better. The STP price was, as usual, a real bargain too. We are now on the lookout for raincoats that would fit our other dogs.

    • Answer They are definitely authentic. I have Hurtta products from other retailers and these coats match up with the others. Not to mention Sierra Trading Post sells a lot of high end brands and have a great reputation for having great prices on high end brands.

As far as sizing it depends on the size of jacket you pick. My dogs are 14" and 16" and have a girth of around 20". The coats fit them fine. The important measurement is the length of the dog, from the base of the neck to the base of the tail. Then you see if the girth fits. The girth strap can go over or under the coat and is very adjustable. If you get the correct length I think you can get the girth to fit.

    • Answer All of the products that we sell are authentic. These are sized by back length in inches. The girth is adjustable.

    • Answer I have a Boxer, and I know the difficulty of finding "clothes that fit".
I don't know that I would recommend the Hurrta Raincoat for short-legged dogs, such as your Dachshunds.
If you get a jacket that accommodates the girth, the jacket may hang down too low and drag on the ground.
My suggestion is: Order the jackets, try them on your dogs; if they fit, fine.
Are you a seamstress? If the coats drag the ground, you can shorten them.
Otherwise, take advantage of Sierra Trading Post's easy return policy.
      What do you mean "authentic"??
Well, I would say, "Yes, the Hurrta Raincoat is made in Finland by the Hurrta Company."

The Hurrta jacket is well-tailored, but, again I say, I don't know if it will fit a dachshund properly.

  • Question “How do you determine the size you need?”

Asked on 10/16/2013 1:32:51 PM by Calvin Climb from PA
    • Answer You need to measure your dog's back. Measure from the back of his neck to his tail. The numbers indicate the size length in inches. Also if you click on the sizes it will indicate the length and a breed to give you an idea of the size. I. E. 24 (Length 24 IN. BACK, GERMAN POINTER)
