I gave up on my running store's synthetic blend socks years ago and switched to wool. I don't have a preference for SmartWool or Icebreaker - both have excellent ultralite lines of running socks. Both brands keep making them even more lightweight and thin. They keep getting better. I'm just ... Read More

I gave up on my running store's synthetic blend socks years ago and switched to wool. I don't have a preference for SmartWool or Icebreaker - both have excellent ultralite lines of running socks. Both brands keep making them even more lightweight and thin. They keep getting better. I'm just starting to wear holes in the first SmartWool Ultralites I bought in 2009 - unlike synthetic running socks, these wear like iron and never shrink. My feet don't get too hot, support is great and with the quarter crew, I'm never left fishing the heel of the sock out of my shoe. No blistering, bunching up or chafing with wool and I put in lots of miles, so that's saying something. The only negative on wool socks is that they are usually grey or a pretty intense color - not white. My feet don't care!
