Im a life long mountaineer with tens of winter climbs. MtnHrdwr is a great brand... for about half their items. This is one that doesnt make the cut.

I got this coat for my girl and our winter pursuits in the alpine and i found that it is poorly designed. The hood's drawstring is not insulated... so, even though this coat is made with great materials, the hood will not keep u warm. Plus, classic MtnHrdwr, the thumb loops are not nearly long enough, making them useless.

If you still wanna buy it, remember, the folks at MtnHrdwr are tiny people, so always order a size larger (down items seem to always be reaaaaaly small).

I travel to very cold climates (North and South Arctic) where cold, wind and rain can make for challenging conditions. This Down Jacket is great solo if there is no rain or wind, and layers well under protective top for those other conditions. If you need a down jacket for warmth, concerned about weight and space for packing buy this jacket before ST runs out. On sale, you can' beat quality or price. Sizing. I tried both the medium and large. The medium fit (34DD, average, athletic build), but a bit constrictive. The large is a little big, but allows better movement and layers well. I would say it tends to run just a little small.
