This is my 3rd pair of Brooks Cascadia shoes in the past 2 years and I use them for everything from hiking to trail running. I toured Europe for 3 months last fall using this shoe as my only footwear. It's a great all around shoe, and a great running shoe but surprisingly an even better trail hiki... Read More

The good: The shoes fit great as have every other paid or Brooks I have owned. Lightweight. Seem to be durable for the weight.
The bad: poor traction on loose surfaces, no traction on wet surfaces.

The biggest issue I have with the shoes is the traction on loose and wet surfaces. When I was breaking them in I wore them to a restaurant (one where you toss your peanut shells on the floor) to meet some family and nearly fell. The next day I tried scuffing the soles on some fairly fresh concrete, hoping to remove anything that might make the sole slippery from the manufacturing process and hopefully add some siping. There was a slight improvement from doing this but the shoes overall still performed very poorly on wet and loose surfaces. These were my trail shoes to go along with a pair of Merrell boots for a 15 day hiking trip out west I recently took where I put in nearly 100 miles on backcountry trails and the only two times I fell on the trip (both on loose, dusty surfaces) was when I was wearing these shoes. Wore them one day around Hocking Hills recently on a rainy morning, and bouncing around on the wet rock quickly reconfirmed by past experience with them on wet surfaces (my scraped up knees from a couple of slips was a testament to this). I'll probably retire these to my walking around shoes or use them only for well groomed metropark trails and find something with a more aggressive sole to satisfy my low shoe needs.

seems to have enough support in combination with plenty (but not too much) of cushion; feels very true to size.
