I don't know just how accurate this device is in its measurements, but it is fun to observe fluctuations in temperature on items both indoors and out. Its housing is plastic, so it's not meant for anything that requires durability. Brand new and right out of the package, it didn't work. We found that all of the preloaded button batteries had leaked. After cleaning off the battery connections and installing brand-new batteries, it worked just fine.

I love this thing for finding hotspots in living space, checking ambient temperature for my plants and seedlings and aiming at the foreheads of unsuspecting family members.

Found one corroded battery inside. Cleaned that out and still would not work. Had to place a shim in the battery compartment to hold batteries in place. Now it works fine. Tried calling LaCrosse customer service and could not get thru.

  • Question “I am looking for a device that not only tells the temperature but also the wind speed. Do you know what such a device is called. I have seen one but didn't get the name. I think it also tells barometric pressure as well. I assume this one is strictly a thermometer? Thanks!”
Asked on 8/5/2010 12:00:00 AM by Anonymous from Unknown
    • Answer This is only thermometer. The closest item is an advanced weather system and it does not tell wind speed. You can look here: http://lacrossetechnology.com/9020/index.php

  • Question “Hi,|Can you tell me if this product is water-resistant/water-proof ? I'd like to use it to check stream & lake water surface temps while fishing.||Thanks!”
Asked on 3/30/2010 12:00:00 AM by Smbasschaser from Southcentral Pennsylvania
    • Answer This item is not water proof nor does it state that it is water resistant. If you carried it in a dry box or dry sack you may be able to still use it.
