I remember asking several hikers about these years ago. I specifically wanted to know how they performed on solid ice because it seemed to me that they might cause you to slip and fall if the wire coils did not dig into the ice. These are easy on and off and work fine on icy surfaces. But they break down fast if you are moving between ice and asphalt, as I do during winter walks. The weak point is the soft rubber where the greatest stress is applied - just beyond the wire loops. If that area of the item connects with road or sidewalk surface, it quickly degrades and breaks. Mine lasted about 2 walks - 8 miles. These are a cheap easy solution but I prefer to get a couple years out to them. I'm hoping the equally affordable icetrekker is an upgrade.

Not only do they do the job of avoiding slips and falls, but they are so easy to put on and take off.

Very effective for ice and slippery snow. As a blind person I can't tell what the slip factor is until I hit it and then go down. These things have saved my elbows and tailbone
