They're too stretchy to be called "compression," yet the XL is too tight to be labeled as such and the XXL has the pads placed a little off for the XL wearer. C'est la vie. Overall quality seems excellent. I am not a football or rugby player; I got this to wear under my motorcycle riding suit as additional padding. Best feature: the upper pads seem to cover the collarbones fairly well. Worst feature: the rib padding coverage could use a rethink, but is much better than nothing.

Answer You will want a form fit.

Answer It should fit snugly to prevent the shifting of the pads, but it's too light/too stretchy of a material to be classed as a true compression shirt. They run a little small in the adult XL & XXL sizes.
