At first I struggled with this rod and kept reverting to my 5wt CPX switch, however I've finally gotten the line dialed in and It casts sweet. I lined it with the Beulah Elixir Spey V2 Shooting Head Fly Line 425 grain and went with 30lb triliene Big game as shooting line with no backing. So far really working well ( soak and stretch the mono !). Able to reach the seams where the trout are holding without a driftboat. Great set-up for swinging streamers.

I am a beginner spey fisherman so keep that in mind when using this review. The rod seems a little stiff and I broke the first one on the second time out. STP responded quickly without any hassles and I had a replacement in less than a week. I have had it out two more times and all seems well. I do believe once I get better at casting it will prove to be a great rod for my level. Still trying for that first steelhead on a fly!

Not to heavy not to light . This rod casts perfect and flexes in all the right places. I used my redington reel a size bigger and it was perfectly balanced

I've wanted a spey rod since I bagan Steelheading but they are generally too expensive for me. This is a great rod at a great price. My friend who taught me to spey cast uses a top shelf rod but casts just as well with mine. I can use massive weighted intruders and T-14 sink tip and still launch across the river. Its all about distance.

This is a great rod for spey fishing. It is good for beginners because it is fast and is forgiving. Not a high-end rod, but a workhorse, it is fun to cast and works for both summer and winter applications. It can throw heavy tips and flies, as well as dries.
