Bought this as a gift to a really good friend. He called me a couple of days after playing with this outfit. Used it for sockeye and pike so far - seems sturdy, although I'll be replacing the pre-spooled line soon. 7-9# sockeye in the river was a good tussle on the 8wt. Good performance for the money.

This had just the right feel for a low end fly rod, and performed admirably.
I would have given more stars but I believe I recieved a rod that was made last on a Friday before a long weekend and it cracked where it went together, and I ended up chasing the better part of the rod out of the lake.

Tremendous value for a clearance item. Purchased another as a gift for a beginner. Will use mine as a back-up. Balance is a little forward, but not bad enough to exclude it. Looking forward to lots of use, especially in salt and warm water situations.
