I am new to fly fishing, being an avid spinning rig user. I was suprised to see the 9 foot version of this rod (6 wt) fail completly at the join for the two pieces. I cast for about one hour (though with 7 wt line) when on the back cast, "CRUNCH!" That was the end of it. Though these rods have a lifetime replacement guarantee, the handling charge is about [$], which is too expensive.

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
I have been fly fishing for over 15 years. This was one of the first rods that I ever used 13 years ago. The original redington RedFly is a phenominal rod especially for those just getting into it. I suggest it to all my friends. I have never had a problem with durability, casting accuracy, or fighting a fish. It's a strong rod with medium flex to protect lighter tippets. It roll casts well, but it really does excel at shooting casts with a double haul. I now use the rod for bass fishing and throwing the larger deer hair bass bugs! GREAT ROD from a GREAT Company.
