    Pros:
Easy To Transport, Good Tip Action, Sensitive
    Best Uses:
    Fly Fishing, River Fishing
    Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
This rod is of the same quality of others (Sage, Winston) that I use but at half the price. This rod has a VERY fast action which fits me well. The rod has excellent sensitivity and allows a solid hook set throughout the entire drift. I'm not sure about the quality of the reel seat. It seems somewhat frail, but I have not experienced any difficulties as of yet. The dark blue color of the rod is very nice. The provided rod tube is an added bonus. It's so nice that I'm tempted to use a different rod tube when storing it in my backpack when on hiking trips to avoid scratching it up. The rod is a strong 5 wt. It would certainly be overkill on smaller waters. Just another great product manufactured by Redington.

I lost one of these while on a motorcycle flyfishing trip, and purchased exactly the same rod when I got back home. It has a great feel, and transmits subtle bumps perfectly. I've fished it a lot of different rivers, environments and fly setups, all with great feedback and strength.

If you like a fast action rod, this is for you. This rod can throw line with tight loops. Also has the backbone to land big fish. Landed a Carp of about 20 pounds the second time I used it. Faster and throws more line than my Sage XP.

For the price you can't beat it. I have high end rods and this compares easily. Good fast action with small or large flies. I can't say anything bad. If you need a soft rod don't buy this. Used it on the Rio Grande with streamers and nymphing on the San Juan. I love it.

I own three SS rods. The #5 is disappointing in comparison to the others. It is just not suitable as an all around trout rod - but then perhaps it was never 'sposed to be. It will not load up within 40', it is vague out to about 50' and it is the only #5 that i can cast beyond 100'. With the Ti fittings, mine is becoming a specialty saltwater #5, for which it is perfect. Needs a half weight up line like GPX taper.

Don't bother with a Redington, go right for a March Brown rod here.

Great rod, loads well with only 15 feet of line out. I was able to cast accurately with a 15 foot leader at 60+ feet. Rod had a great feel a short acceleration and this rod has a ton of power to throw line. I would recommend this for anyone that is looking to upgrade to a high quality rod at an affordable price.

I bought this 9 ft, 4-piece, 5 wt fly rod to serve as a back-up to my Sage 5wt Z-Axis rod. I used it for the past 3 days while fly fishing on the Rio Grande River. I cast it hundreds of times while drift boat fishing under a variety of conditions (wind, distance, brush). I really liked it. Frankly, I could tell little difference (both are fast action) from my more expensive Sage fly rod. Given the price, it is a fine value.
