    A beautifully finished rod at any price, let alone the close-out price. Excellent cork is a bit smaller than most 8 weights, but is very comfy in my large hands. An excellent rod with a good compromise between power and sensitivity.

  • Well made and solid 8 weight

    Pros:
    Can easily upline to a 9, Loads easily, Nicely finished, Progressive taper
    Cons:
    Full wells grip is narrow, Heavier reel balances it, Ross Service is slow, Slightly heavy for rating
    Best Uses:
    Durable back up rod, Steelhead rod, Throwing larger flies
    Bottom Line:
    Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
    Best part about this rod is the price @ Sierra, compared to original list price. Rod is not the lightest tool in the shed. The 7 weight may be a better stick than the 8 weight, especially for a lighter reel. The 8 weight has (two) large diameter stripping guides - larger than on the 7 weight. Wish Ross would standardize on a thicker cork grip.

    Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
    I just had to report back after having opportunities to cast the 8wt.. This rod is very usable over all distances, with good loading for short casts and the backbone for shooting 80ft. with ease. It does have a heavy tip, but this is irrelevant when balanced with a loaded reel and does give us a powerful tip section. I am pleased to no end!

    I use this rod in an 8wt and 9wt. Its a lovely casting rod that loads well and delivers accurate casts in typically higher wind saltwater settings. Finish on the rod is excellent, with quality guides and perfect wrapping.
