The most important thing I can say is that the sizing listed in, at best, confusing. I ordered based on the type of dogs that were mentioned in the Medium size review. My pup is a Portuguese Cattle Dog (I know, not helpful)> Her body is similar to perhaps a Dalmatian. She measures 30" at the chest and 25" collar the base of her tail and the Large fits very nicely. The 26 girth measurement is the amount of material on the coat edge to edge NOT the girth; since, like most coats, it is not designed to go all the way around. The belly strap is 13" and adds about 7" to the girth measurement. The 23 measurement is from the base of the neck to the base of the tail. This is correct, but the coat is generous in the neck so it will really be on the chest more, giving easy access to the collar and therefore extends more toward the tail. The only thing that I will need to do is add an extra strip of hook side of the velcro on the chest strap to eliminate any flapping. My only complaint? You can't buy merino wool & possum hair coats for humans!

I have a very long dog, so this coat is a little short for him, but I expected that. He is thin for such a large dog and not a deep chest, so I think Large is an accurate size. Takes a second to put on him and he likes it a lot. It stays in place pretty well and looks very cute on him, he's black. It stays in place when he rides in the car. I haven't tried to wash it yet. It would not be a great coat for nasty weather or a dog that rolls. It's kinda simple yet a fancy luxury fabric. It fits him snug enough that he could wear a slicker over it in heavy rain. It's not super heavy, maybe not enough if you live very far north.

I have a 70 lb. bully breed mix who is hard to fit. The wide velcro flaps on this make it easy to adjust to fit him very well. The coat is incredibly soft and keeps him warm without restricting his movement at all -- much better than the ones that have legs. It's basically like a very, very well made horse blanket. I love it, and he accepts it much better than anything else I've tried. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that I haven't washed it yet. Otherwise this is an A+ product.
