Very lightweight and ventilated. Vents not just in back, but under the chest pockets as well. Received during winter, so the real test will come this summer. It seems to be very well made with attention to detail. Lightweight but sturdy ripstop fabric. One chest pocket has a zipper under the flap. T... Read More

It's so hard to find this superb shirt. It has two front pockets, one of them being ultimately secure (it's zippered and then has a hook/loop flap over it). The two front map pockets keep large format items like maps easily stored and handy. The convertible sleeves make it easy to shorten when hot, and lengthen when cool.

This is in the same league as the Colombia shirts but I think they look more dressy. It is almost as comfortable as silk to wear.

I bought 4 of these for Christmas presents. The feel of the fabric is great, and they look dressy enough to wear out on the town, as well as hiking or working. I'm withholding a star because I obviously haven't received feedback from the people that are going to get them. First impression though, is good. This is the first Royal Robbins shirt I've purchased. We'll see what's said after the tree is taken down.

I have several vented shirts from different labels, but this one is clearly the best. It drapes better, does not wrinkle, vents not only in back, but under the front pockets as well. This is my second purchase of this shirt, in a different color than the first one. The first one was used for long day hikes in Bryce Canyon, Utah, as well as the Redwoods in northern California. Very comfortable in hot or cool weather.

    • Each of the two vertical, velcro sealed pockets can hold a relatively flat object up to almost 7" by 7". I have carried guidebooks, cameras, snacks, ammunition, gps, dark glasses, and other gear in them. The only drawback is that one's chest can swell to an unsightly size.

    • The top right chest pocket's roughly 5.5" x 5.5" (the top left pocket's stitched vertically to have a pen picket, so it's about an inch narrower). However, the deeper pocket - the two chest pockets are mounted on top a larger pocket with a Velcro closure) will easily hold that, on both sides. They're maybe 8" x 10"?

  • “does this shirt have 2 hidden chest pockets?”
Asked by steve from little rock, arkansas on 12/21/2012 12:00:00 AM
    • It does not have hidden chest pockets.

    • Yes, it does have two large, side-entry (Napoleon), velcro-closed hidden chest pockets. Entry is an inch outside of the front placket on each side. They're behind and extend lower than the Flap chest pockets, and are backed by mesh so they serve as front vents too.

About Royal Robbins

By the late-1960s, veteran Yosemite rock climber Royal Robbins and his wife Liz had grown tired of wearing cutoff jeans on the crag. At the time, apparel designed specifically for outdoor adventure was virtually non-existent. After years of wishing for something better, the couple finally decided to create their own, starting with a pair of climbing shorts called the “Billy Goat.” This was the beginning of Royal Robbins’ clothing revolution. Today, nearly 50 years later, Royal Robbins outdoor clothing is as rugged and reliable as ever. When you buy a Royal Robbins sweater or shirt, or a Royal Robbins pair of pants or shorts, you can bet it will fit great, whether you’re climbing in the Sierra Nevadas, camping in the backcountry or relaxing in your own backyard.
