These shorts do everything perfectly. The fabric is tough and durable but not heavy or stiff like work shorts. The length is a perfect bridge between the classic khaki shorts you remember and the longer shorts fashionable today. In other words, you won't feel like you're wearing 70s shorty shorts but you won't feel you're wearing contemporary board shorts either. The gusseted crotch makes these comfortable for cycling and hiking--nothing there to chafe you. I can imagine wanted a tougher or harder wearing short for outdoors but then it would stay as cool in the heat or look as easy in other situations.
The cell phone pocket is brilliant and almost un-noticeable, even in brisk walking. I need this feature in every pair of trousers and shorts.

These shorts sure looked nice, but my husband bike commutes and the shorts didn't give him the mobility he needed to comfortably bike in them. So, back they went.

Best pair of shorts I have bought from Royal Robbins. Very comfortable, soft material, and true to size, even after washing.

Got these for my fiancee. They fit, but the side slit pockets add bulk where he doesn't have any. I didn't DIS-like them. I just didn't love them. Well made, like all Royal Robbins products, but not a keeper.

The shorts fit really well and seem well made, but I didn't care for the color so I returned them.

About Royal Robbins

By the late-1960s, veteran Yosemite rock climber Royal Robbins and his wife Liz had grown tired of wearing cutoff jeans on the crag. At the time, apparel designed specifically for outdoor adventure was virtually non-existent. After years of wishing for something better, the couple finally decided to create their own, starting with a pair of climbing shorts called the “Billy Goat.” This was the beginning of Royal Robbins’ clothing revolution. Today, nearly 50 years later, Royal Robbins outdoor clothing is as rugged and reliable as ever. When you buy a Royal Robbins sweater or shirt, or a Royal Robbins pair of pants or shorts, you can bet it will fit great, whether you’re climbing in the Sierra Nevadas, camping in the backcountry or relaxing in your own backyard.
