By one less car from sf ca on 02/16/2010 Pros: Durable, Lightweight Cons: Clip system weak, Tough to Install Best Uses: Commuting, Long Rides, Mountain Bikes Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: We are a family of regular bicyclists who use our panniers for regular errands ie shopping, school supply transport and also bike camping trips. The fabric of the panniers is very strong and will be durable. The system to secure pannier to the bike is inadequate and while it works a little better when the bag is weighted it does not work so well when the bag is empty on the way to shopping. We will probably modify the attachment system and with one we create ourselves. Probably a little more work than the average shopper would want to do.
By gyoza, ramen & a beer from new york, ny on 10/07/2009 Describe Yourself: Avid Cyclist Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: Tried to mount these on Trek rack on Trek bike. Hooks are barely long enough to adequately secure to rack and, as previous review noted, the lower hook & spring meant to stabilize the panniers against the rack lacked sufficient tensile strength. Failed to even retain their shape after a single use.
Worst of all, one of the mounting fixtures tore loose from the dernier fabric the first time I used the bags. This, with the bag holding two 33oz. bottles of olive oil, a sixteen oz. package of dried noodles, and four cans of tuna fish.
Cannot imagine what, other than a change of gym clothes, these bags are up to handling.
Have ordered thousands of dollars of equipment and clothing from STP over the years and, aside from returns for sizing reasons, have never encountered a clearly inferior product until now. Just a waste.
By chris from chicago on 05/26/2009 Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: The first time I used these, I got caught in a 10-minute rain. Although not advertised as waterproof, the material appears waterproofed, and the contents remained dry. A longer rain will prove a better test, but this was a good start.
One weakness I noticed is that the bottom spring and hook are thin and appear weaker than the rest. It works fine, but I'll keep my eyes open for something to replace it with. I'll also reinforce the stitching at the opening of the draw string: when I yanked on it, the top stitch started to 'give.'
Overall, however, I'm very pleased with this purchase!
