By Tigerotor77W from Urbana, IL on 11/12/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Good Grip, Snug Fit, Warm, Water Resistant, Windproof Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I was looking for a slim glove glove (allowing near-full tactile use of my fingers), was warm in moderate (down to 40°F, say) temperatures, modestly waterproof, and somewhat windproof. There's no glove that will do everything -- the warmest and most waterproof gloves would be huge and remove all dexterity; the thinner gloves wouldn't hold up. The Canari seemed like an option to blend the best of both worlds. For the most part, I'm impressed. I ran one finger under a faucet for about a minute with no perceived wetness; I've used it in bike rides of up to 20 minutes in mid-30° temperatures and with 10 MPH winds; and I've worn them consecutively for about three hours to see how my hands felt after taking them out after prolonged wear. The gloves do all right as a general purpose glove. The seams aren't taped and thus will fray over time, and the gloves don't seem quite as breathable as a pure fleece glove (for instance), but they've exceeded my expectations on all counts. I'd give it 4.5/5.
The good:
Lightweight
Waterproof
Windproof
Warm
Still allows for finger movement -- I was able to tie my shoes with these gloves on
The bad:
Warm, but not insulated -- not thick enough for continuous winter activity in snow
Possibility not durable (to be determined)
Not breathable and not insulated By Cold-weather cyclist from Boston, MA on 11/01/2009 Pros: Good Grip, Windproof Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: Waterproof = not breathable, Windproof = not insulated.
I bought these for cold-weather bicycling. While they definitely block the wind, they are not insulated so my hands still get cold.
I don't know if they're waterproof from the outside-in, but they're definitely waterproof from the inside-out. After a brief ride in these gloves, my hands start to sweat, and if I don't turn these inside-out after a ride so they can dry out, they will still be soaking wet the next day.
By D from Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota on 03/31/2009 Pros: Dries Easily, Good Grip, Warm, Water Resistant, Windproof Cons: Run small don't breath Best Uses: Casual Wear, Driving, Hiking/Running, Working Outdoors Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I use these for cold weather biking, driving, walking around, and clearing snow.
Worst thing: They run small. I have the xl and they still bind pretty seriously between the thumb and forefinger. This means they ride up my palm when I'm biking or being active. The palms and fingers are nice and grippy. They do block the wind well, they are as warm as I expected them to be, but they don't breath terribly well. Still overall, a good product at the price point - the fit is the biggest issue for me.
