stretchy; abrasion & water resistant By reddirt from my subaru wagon on 11/23/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Dries Quickly, High-Quality Material and Stitching, Lightweight, Stretchy Fabric Best Uses: Backpacking, Camping, Casual Wear, Climbing, Running/Hiking, Travel, Watersports Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: 5'8", 137# sz 6 fit perfectly comfy (& flattering!). The tough but stretchy fabric allows for great movement. The rise is perfect - not too high nor low. The way the pockets are placed (esp the zippered one) does not get in the way of a harness. The waistband has internal adjustability (elastic with button holes).
Based on the way the fabric feels, I would use these for sailing & surfing too.
I wear a S in Prana 2007/8 Tenaya, Verona & Bliss pants, 4-6 in Royal Robbins (inconsistent manufacturing), in Patagonia Serenity tights, S/6 in most Patagonia W's pants/shorts/skorts (except Rock Guide=4, Simple Guide=M).

By BigSky from Sunbury, Ohio on 11/10/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Dries Quickly, High-Quality Material and Stitching, Lightweight Best Uses: Backpacking, Camping, Casual Wear, Going Out Around Town, Running/Hiking, Travel Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Really great shorts! I am getting older and the hippie dippie weather-worn shorts don't foot the bill. These shorts are neat looking, w/a clean line and respectable enough for everyday use in town, out in nature and at home. If you have issues w/gaps at the back in waist, don't get these, they are made for an athletic, boyish straight figure w/a more generous waist - order true size.
