Spend the extra [$] on these By Armstrong.199 from Columbus, OH on 11/06/2009 Pros: Convenient, inexpensive Best Uses: Backpacking, Traveling Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Since I live in Ohio, I have to ship or check my trekking poles when traveling to National Parks out west. Last year, I didn't have these plastic covers and had to wrap the ends of the poles in bubble wrap so none of my luggage would get "speared." This was a bit of a pain on the return trip home since I kept the bubble wrap, but had forgotten to throw in some packing tape. This year, these covers will be so much easier. Plus, I've heard that if you have covers on your poles, you have a better chance of getting them through carry-on luggage, since the sharp point is covered and they can be considered a "walking aid" versus a "ski pole." That would be great, since I often prefer to avoid checked baggage entirely. One last plus is storage--I can throw these in the closet with the covers on and not worry about them.
