In the late 80's women's athletic shoes were mostly scaled down versions of men's styles. Ryka founder Sheri Poe was frustrated by the lack of athletic footwear designed to meet the needs of women. So she did what any frustrated woman with an entrepreneurial spirit would do – she started her own company to meet the need. All Ryka shoes are molded to the shape of woman's foot. I have a pair of Rykas that I love. I bought them from Sierra, size 7, and they fit great. This pair was the same size, same brand, but too short! I had to send them back. What a disappointment!

I ordered my true size, 7.5, and they fit perfectly with a thin sock (footie or very thin cotton sock), as well as sockless. These sneakers are light weight and are not at all clunky. They look and feel well-made and feel good on the foot, although I may add a thin insert for added cushioning. They look very cool with blue or black jeans. I am 50 and I like the retro look of these. Great for wearing around town when you're in the mood for a sneaker. I would not recommend for hiking or athletics unless you order half size up so that you can wear a proper sock.
