Reviewed by BlackRock from Seattle on Wednesday, October 5, 2016Take the review for what it is since I haven't fished the reel yet... I got this Sage Click 1 based on others recommendations of the "Click" reels and their quality and function. I've been shopping for a second micro reel for about two months. The Redington Zero and the Orris Battenkill were both high on my list and both around $100 a piece. Not having nearly $300 to spend I had to snag one of these at $140 and try it out when I found the deal. Pricier than the other two reels, but reviews of the Click series sold me on the quality and from what I've seen it definitely stands well above any of the other $100 range reels. Happy with my purchase.
I have a 7'6" 1wt rod and wanted this ultra small 000/0 reel for it to shoot a skagit style head setup. The 000/0 is discontinued by Sage as they went from four to three sizes for the Click series (Correct me if I'm wrong). Comparing specs the 000/0 is just ever so slightly smaller by what seems to me a negligible amount from the 1/2/3 size. It also looks like spare spools are abundant on the net so if I really wanted one I could see being able to find one still for at least a couple years. Sierra Trading Post - If you are reading PLEASE get the Click 1 spare spools up for clearance too! I will purchase a couple in black if you can swing a deal :)
As usual STP.com got the gear to me FAST! The reel comes in such a nice box and the neoprene case is awesome. The box and case mean nothing other than to showcase the quality of what Sage is delivering. Very happy with the accessories... Good instructions and a warranty card were included and will both be used. Inspecting the reel I've found it to be spot on in every way. The "Drag" is a simple dial that operates with 180 degrees of rotation. It seems to have a solid hold on position and I can set the drag anywhere within that range and feel the ever so slight change in line release.
I've yet to spool up my line, but I'm planning to load on 30-50yds of 20lb Dacron backing to a full roll (50m) of 30lb OPST Lazar line. Way overkill for both on specs on what I'll be catching, but the 30lb shooting Lazar line is just that much easier to handle vs the 25lb mono they sell and still super stinking small. It's so small I'm going to load the full 50m and then just cut 20ft off at a time over the summer as it wears out per Ed Wards recommendation for working with the line. I've got about 20ft of a WF9F floating line I'll be tossing on the end that will be doubling as both the shooting commando head and floating tip and I'm hoping to replicate the OPST commando head shooting line and single hand skagit casting on my 1wt and this micro reel.
Overall very happy with the price and reel. Now get the spare spools for this Sierra Trading Post!
