I stopped running a decade ago, after I tore cartilage in my left knee through years of an excessive running. Sentiment remained so I use running shoes for brisk walks these days. I walk about 2 miles a day; I walk 4-7 times a week, depending on weather. During the past few years, I went through Nik... Read More

Shoe fits true to size. I wear a 9.5 and that size fits comfortably. They seem to run narrow which is perfect for me. Great traction and the lacing system has always been my favorite feature from Salomon. Great for the trails, OCR's and even climbing on the play equipment with my kid at the park.

I've wanted these shoes for a while now, but I refuse to pay $140 for them. So when I found them here for such a great price, I had to order. They are the most supportive and comfortable shoes I own. The quick laces are awesome for quick adjustments when runnin.

All the OCR racers have them. There's a reason. Ran Spartan and Battlefrog in these, no problems on rocky mountains, sand, mud, water or climbing of any sorts. The best of the best. Need no breakin-in time. Don't hesitate. However, sizing is a size smaller. I'm a 10 in all nike's and adidas. I am a 9 in these. Wear Swiftwick thin racing socks for these races or runs. A thick sock I would need a 9.5 but I won't be using these on any occasion calling for thick socks. Super light!!! Maybe a tad heavier than nike Free's! Love love love. Wash like a dream also. Get these on sale, don't bother with paying more for color schemes if you're using these for OCR's.

I had another pair of these shoes and wore them out so I got them in the other color offered, a bright pinkish orange. They are amazing trail shoes. I wore them for a killer trail half marathon in Colorado and they totally rocked!! They are comfortable, stylish, and most of all have awesome lugs (sticky rubber), on the soles that grip the rocks. I feel totally stable when I run trails on these babies. You WON'T be disappointed with these.

  • “Does this running shoe have the Ortho insert?”
Asked by Rita the Runner from Ohio on 8/16/2015 3:50:51 PM
    • It has the ortholite insole. It's a very comfortable insole. My feet run toward the narrow width and I really, really like this shoe.
Answered on 8/16/2015 5:07:32 PM by caddyjane from Iowa
    • Yes this shoes does have removable/washable Otho insert. I've really enjoyed these shoes...but if you are running on pavement rather than a dirt trail you might want to reconsider your choice. The soles on my shoes have worn down quickly walking on paved bike paths.
Answered on 8/16/2015 6:28:47 PM by JH Hiker from Jackson, wy
    • Yes, they all have an "ortho lite" insert. But I like "Chaco" support, so I don't consider it significant support.
Still, I have added a different insert, as this model is more supportive than others I've tried.
This is my favorite Solomon shoe of 5 models I've tried.

    • It has a lightweight ortho insert. I took it out of my pair and added Superfeet. I need extra support.

    • There is no separate insert. There appears to be a built in support made of gel. The lining of the shoe says:"Ortholite"

    • No. I find it true to size.

    • Yes these shoes are true to size. I bought them for a Spartan race here in Virginia. The hills were big and muddy and these shoes were awesome! So many others were slipping and I was able to just marched up the hills. I highly recommend them for an obstacle race. Also no break in time. From the first time I wore them, and had long training sessions they were super comfortable and not one blister.

    • I am usually an 8-8.5 and I got the 8.5 only because I have orthodics that need to fit. And they fit perfectly. Without them the 8 would be better. So yes I would say they are true to size.

    • Yes, I would buy a 1/2 size up. I normally buy my running and hiking shoes a 1/2 to a full size larger than what I normally wear because your feet will swell. I wear an 8-1/2 in casual shoes and bought a 9 in these. They fit great. Wish I had bought 2 pair at the time.

    • These shoes seemed to be a bit narrower than some of my other Salomons, but are true to size as far as length. I got some insoles from REI to put in my shoes and the 8.5/9 size fit inside perfectly. I'm not sure what to say about the length. I usually wear between an 8 and 8.5 medium width, and I always order 8.5s. I always have a bit of room in the toe for thicker socks. If you are a true 8.5, a 9 might be too big.

Why don't you buy both 8.5 and 9 and send back the one that doesn't fit?

    • Yes, it is true to size with normal thickness socks or no socks.

if you wear thick socks, I'd "up" 1/2 size

    • I feel like this shoe is true to size. I put it on & wore it for the whole day, hiking & walking. I typically wear an 8.5, with sport socks (thin) the shoes fit great.

    • No. I am a size 8.5 and found that this shoe is actually just a little bigger compared to my other shoes the same size. However, it's not that big I would have to wear a size 8. The shoe also seems to hug your foot without being tight and I found that it provides superior stability. I run rocky hills with some scree. I think you'll like this shoe...

    • I usually wear a 9.5. I ended up sending back for a size 10 which was perfect for off road, trail running and hiking.

    • I found this shoe to be very narrow---I had to return them. If you are doing a lot of hills you should order 1/2 size up to protect your toes!!

    • Yes, it is. I wear a 9.5 or 10, and ordered these in a 9.5 and they fit great. There is a roomy toe box, which makes all the difference. I wore them hiking in the mountains in AZ and at a Color Run in WI. Best shoes ever!

    • I found it to be larger that normal Solomons. I usually wear a 10 in Solomons and most athletic shoes, and I wear a 9 in these. The 9.5 had too much room and I felt like I was moving around too much in it. The 9 fits snugly, but feels like it is part of my feet when I am running over tough or technical terrain.

    • Get half a size up. I've had speedcross for ages now but have always had size 10.5. I ordered 10.5 in the new speedcross 4 and my toe is touching the end so I ordered another pair in 11 and problem solved.

About Salomon

The legendary Salomon outdoor equipment company was founded more than 60 years ago in the French Alps by Francois Salomon. After developing the world’s first self-releasing ski binging in 1966, the company continued to grow and innovate new products. By the early 1990s, the brand had taken the wintersports market by storm with Salomon skis made using cap construction, a totally new innovation at the time. Salmon boots quickly became famous for their balance of performance and comfort on the slopes. By the turn of the century, Salomon snowboards were helping athletes push themselves in the park and powder. Today, Salomon continues to be an industry leader, with products that range from skis and snowboards to hiking boots and trail running shoes.
