I stopped running a decade ago, after I tore cartilage in my left knee through years of an excessive running. Sentiment remained so I use running shoes for brisk walks these days. I walk about 2 miles a day; I walk 4-7 times a week, depending on weather. During the past few years, I went through Nik... Read More

I have been wearing Solomon's for years now. I am finally retiring a pair after 10 years of hiking on them. I bought these in Raspberry and they are not only a gorgeous color, they are sooo comfortable. I love the quick zip lacing, just like my hiking boots and snowboarding boots. Superb quality, excellent gripping for trail use, sleek, and made for wear and tear. I wore them today for the first time and heard many compliments on their look and sturdy soles. I will be a lifelong Solomon buyer as long as they keep offering this quality and I can continue to buy them at STP prices.

Been road running for 25+ years; these are my first trail shoes as I am starting to run more trails. Awesome shoes! Immediately comfortable; I've run with them on the road as well as the trail and they work fine for both. They aren't as soft a ride on the road as a new pair of road shoes, but they beat a worn pair of road shoes any day. Did 9.5 miles on the road a couple of days ago and they felt great from the first mile to the last. Have run on gravel and dirt trails and they are a very smooth ride--I feel very secure in them and much more confident. My feet feel very secure and stable. Will try them out on rocky trails this weekend. I'm now a Solomon fan!

Second pair and I will be buying a third. Best shoes ever.

The nobbies are great for hard packed dirt with some sand on top. I can run down the hill without hesitation. The outsoles are on the soft side, so they may not last as long as I like, but it's all right. I like them so much, I ended up buying a second pair. If you like shoes that fit snug around the heels but wide up front, then I think you'll like these shoes. For trail running shoes, these are pretty cushy too.

  • Question “Does this running shoe have the Ortho insert?”
Asked on 8/16/2015 3:50:51 PM by Rita the Runner from Ohio
    • Answer It has the ortholite insole. It's a very comfortable insole. My feet run toward the narrow width and I really, really like this shoe.
Answered on 8/16/2015 5:07:32 PM by caddyjane from Iowa
    • Answer Yes this shoes does have removable/washable Otho insert. I've really enjoyed these shoes...but if you are running on pavement rather than a dirt trail you might want to reconsider your choice. The soles on my shoes have worn down quickly walking on paved bike paths.
Answered on 8/16/2015 6:28:47 PM by Jh hiker from Jackson, wy
    • Answer Yes, they all have an "ortho lite" insert. But I like "Chaco" support, so I don't consider it significant support.
Still, I have added a different insert, as this model is more supportive than others I've tried.
This is my favorite Solomon shoe of 5 models I've tried.

    • Answer It has a lightweight ortho insert. I took it out of my pair and added Superfeet. I need extra support.
Answered on 8/16/2015 8:25:20 PM by Bernadette from Los Angeles, CA
    • Answer There is no separate insert. There appears to be a built in support made of gel. The lining of the shoe says:"Ortholite"

    • Answer Yes these shoes are true to size. I bought them for a Spartan race here in Virginia. The hills were big and muddy and these shoes were awesome! So many others were slipping and I was able to just marched up the hills. I highly recommend them for an obstacle race. Also no break in time. From the first time I wore them, and had long training sessions they were super comfortable and not one blister.

    • Answer I am usually an 8-8.5 and I got the 8.5 only because I have orthodics that need to fit. And they fit perfectly. Without them the 8 would be better. So yes I would say they are true to size.

    • Answer Yes, I would buy a 1/2 size up. I normally buy my running and hiking shoes a 1/2 to a full size larger than what I normally wear because your feet will swell. I wear an 8-1/2 in casual shoes and bought a 9 in these. They fit great. Wish I had bought 2 pair at the time.

    • Answer These shoes seemed to be a bit narrower than some of my other Salomons, but are true to size as far as length. I got some insoles from REI to put in my shoes and the 8.5/9 size fit inside perfectly. I'm not sure what to say about the length. I usually wear between an 8 and 8.5 medium width, and I always order 8.5s. I always have a bit of room in the toe for thicker socks. If you are a true 8.5, a 9 might be too big.

Why don't you buy both 8.5 and 9 and send back the one that doesn't fit?

    • Answer Yes, it is true to size with normal thickness socks or no socks.

if you wear thick socks, I'd "up" 1/2 size

    • Answer I feel like this shoe is true to size. I put it on & wore it for the whole day, hiking & walking. I typically wear an 8.5, with sport socks (thin) the shoes fit great.
Answered on 9/29/2014 4:59:35 PM by Rebel450 from Kentucky
    • Answer No. I am a size 8.5 and found that this shoe is actually just a little bigger compared to my other shoes the same size. However, it's not that big I would have to wear a size 8. The shoe also seems to hug your foot without being tight and I found that it provides superior stability. I run rocky hills with some scree. I think you'll like this shoe...

    • Answer I usually wear a 9.5. I ended up sending back for a size 10 which was perfect for off road, trail running and hiking.

    • Answer I have 3 pairs of the Speedcross (different colors). They run true to size. And BTW, you will LOVE them. The are my favorite shoes!!!

    • Answer I found this shoe to be very narrow---I had to return them. If you are doing a lot of hills you should order 1/2 size up to protect your toes!!
Answered on 9/29/2014 7:15:38 PM by Rose the runner from Colorado
    • Answer Yes, it is. I wear a 9.5 or 10, and ordered these in a 9.5 and they fit great. There is a roomy toe box, which makes all the difference. I wore them hiking in the mountains in AZ and at a Color Run in WI. Best shoes ever!
Answered on 9/29/2014 9:22:46 PM by Jenn from Roscoe IL
    • Answer I found it to be larger that normal Solomons. I usually wear a 10 in Solomons and most athletic shoes, and I wear a 9 in these. The 9.5 had too much room and I felt like I was moving around too much in it. The 9 fits snugly, but feels like it is part of my feet when I am running over tough or technical terrain.
