“The shoe bed is like walking on pillows. I can definitely tell there is support. The sole of the shoe is wide and the traction grips great. These shoes would be great for rocky and unstable terrain. The ankle support is great. That's why I bought the boots. They are my first hiking BOOT. As my hikes have increased in difficulty I've needed more ankle support. Our last hike (through a rain forest in Costa Rica over about 2500ft altitude walking on rocks and vines) made my ankles swell up for days and I think these boots will stop that from happening. I got a 1/2 size smaller because the reviews said the shoe runs large. With the 1/2 size smaller it is a perfect fit with a wool hiking sock. The lacing system ROCKS. I was skeptical at first since my husband's Keens have a similar lacing system and he's always adjusting his, but these laces don't stretch that much and once you get them set in a great position you don't have to worry about them coming untied. It's a moderate temperature here so I haven't tested them in hot, cold or extremely wet conditions.”
