    Pros:
    Comfortable, Performed well
    Best Uses:
    Canyoneering, Kayaking, White water rafting
    Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
I wore these to Costa Rica when I went Canyoneering, which involves rapelling down a waterfall and hiking through streams. I wanted something that could get wet, but still wanted some toe protection and good traction for hiking, and these really fit the bill. In addition to the laces, they are adjustable at the side. I'm not sure how good they would be for longer hikes, but I hiked about 2 miles in these with no socks and no blisters, and I tend to blister easily. We went white water rafting after the canyoneering, and these worked for that as well. I also have other hiking shoes by Solomon and like the brand because they tend to fit me better than the other brands and my toes don't bump up against the front of the shoe. I have slightly wide feet. I order the same size in Salomon as my normal shoe size.

I bought these for my wife to use hiking in Hawaii. She tried them in the house and found them to be uncomfortable, especially in that the tabs at the top of the heel dug into her ankles.

Was looking for a good shoe to hike along and in the rivers in Northern CA that didn't get full of pebbles. The material is a little stiff and I think will take some breaking in with socks around town but I think they will be a great for this summer.

I owned a pair of these shoes for several years, and loved the fit and durability. However, this new pair has a strap in the back of the heal that does not stay tightened. As a result, it loosens and my heal slides up and down in the shoe as I walk. I'm not sure if it is this particular pair or not. My previous pair did not have this problem. Maybe I will exchange them since they would not work well for hiking. Otherwise, they are a great shoe.
