These things are great. My new favorite shoe! I bought the Goretex ones as well, but these are my favorite.

This is my fourth pair of Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra and I have been averaging about 1000 miles on each pair. The insole wears out eventually and I replace then with Sorbothane ULTRA SOLE, which seems to provide great support and cushioning.

This shoe is highly rated for a reason. Well-built, functional, and with some nice features not found on mid-level trail shoes. The lacing system is bomb-proof and fits/feels great. Only reservations on this shoe are that the toe-box is a bit roomy (I am a D width), and the arch on the foot bed is a slight bit higher than I would prefer as I am a medium-low arch height.

I use these for everyday wear. They slip on easily. They breath well, which is a must for me. They look great and feel great. This is the only pair of shoes for which I've considered buying a back up pair. The speedlacing work well and there's a handy little pocket at the top of the tongue to stuff the laces into. I'm typically an 8.5, but I knew that Salomon's run a little large, so I took a chance on the 8's and they are perfect. Mine came with a "WIDE" tag on them, but I can't say that these are wide shoes. The feel perfect to me.

The quick laces, supportive, and comfortable fit are great features of these shoes. 3D's tend to have a narrow fit. If you have wide feet, look for the wide version of these shoes. I have had the Gore-tex versions in the past, would'nt recommend if you live in hot climates, they are hot on your feet!!!

I am a physical therapist who suffered a stress fracture in my foot three years ago. After much research, I decided to give Salomon shoes a try. I have purchased 5 pairs of Solomons since (from STP), and will not wear anything else. The Ortholite insole is excellent, the outsole has great shock absorption and traction qualities. Overall, the shoe "stands up" to the very active way in which I practice my profession.

Salomon is simply unmatched in the world of trail running, period. Their shoes are designed to perform under the toughest conditions, provide stability over rough terrain, and allow your foot to strike properly and control overpronation. These are my 5th pair of Salomons, and the XA Pro 3D Ultras are the best. I've run ultramarathons in the mountains of Arizona in these shoes without getting a single blister, hot spot, or any sort of discomfort.
