I have finally found them and purchased two pairs. I have a short inseam and find it difficult to find pants that do not have to be altered. If you suffer from this challenge you will be pleasantly surprised with these.

Answer Yes. Pockets hold my large Android phone while running just fine. Both have zippers.

Answer The material itself is microfiber, so they provide some protection from cold, but, more important, they wick away sweat and stay dry

Answer These would work for daily commuting or to wear over your shorts as they do not have any padding.

Answer Yes, the tapered legs will stay out of the chain and they are thick enough for what I would guess could be comfortable riding from 65F down to 40F depending on wind and wet, but there is no padding of course so not good for long rides w/o chamois.
