I haven't had time to really beat these babies. But they are stiff in the sole like I like them. My only real beef is the ones that I received have a flex panel in the ankle area. I like a little stiffer ankle. But they are a lot like the early Vasque boots that gave a lot of support and still weren't uncomfortable once you broke them in. The leather, shank, and sole take a little longer to break in. But in my experience, that's the sign of a boot that's going to serve you well over the long haul. Also I checked casual/recreational in the above category because at my age that's just a reasonable thing to do. But there's no doubt that in my younger days I would have taken these out in more extreme settings. A really excellent boot at a really excellent price.

I've been shopping at [...] for a long time and this is the best hiker they sell if your lucky enough to find it in your size. A little on the narrow side so it fits like a glove. Feels lighter then it is, and its hard to tell you have a med/heavy weight hiker on. The only thing I don't like is the redesign of the ankle/heel area on the boots I got. Theres a softer black and grey leather around the ankle for more flex that is different from the picture. Im sure it improves the mobility, but I like the old classic look better.

Great non-membrane, full leather shoe in the market.

This is one of the best hiking/backpacking boots out there. Tough and beautiful leather construction. Incredible design and Italian craftsmanship, attention to detail, and superior fit are all the necessary ingradients to create these state of the art boots. They perform flawlessly on rocks and roots, mud and slush, snow and ice, etc. etc. This boot is a classic and scarpa has been upgrading it over the years. The recent model comes with a lighter construction and a more comfortable ankle desing. I own both the older and the newer models. While the older model is more watertight, the newer model is lighter and more comfortable for everyday use. With proper sock choice, the boots are also very comfortable in a wide temperature range. The thick and sturdy vibram soles provide great traction and underfoot protection. While the speed lacing system secure a great fit really fast. The lining manages moisture very well. As because these boots does not have Gore-tex the feet stays cool and dry. I hope Scarpa never uses Gore-tex in these boots. Its a true classic. I am happy that these boot does not have all the modern day gimmics. All it has is a function packed italian beauty, who will treat you well year after year (provided you treat them with a little TLC).
