Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
The sole is thin so there is more flexibility and less stiffness than you'd want in a climbing shoe, but otherwise works well for the price, which is unbeatable!

Great shoes, especially for the price. I ordered scarpa climbing shoes 2 + years ago from Sierra trading post and had been climbing 1-3 x per week at the climbing gym in them, and they just now wore out. So I ordered these ones, they have been great so far, only climbed in them about 5 times, but they are comfortable and fit my feet well. I usually wear a size 9 shoe and ordered a 40.

I am a beginner and have only used these indoors so far but I am really liking them. I wear a size 8 street shoe and the size 40 fits like a glove when I'm on the wall. Not real comfortable belaying, but I guess that's how it's supposed to work. Lace-up is great to get a good fit, don't know how much these will stretch out, I haven't had them long enough.

I've been bouldering & climbing for a year now, indoor & outdoor. Before this pair I only owned Evolv Elektra (velcro) so I can't really do an extensive brand comparison at the moment. However, the Scarpa Thunder has been good to climb in these past 3 months. They are very versatile. At the most, I use them to boulder indoors at least 4x a week. I boulder outside at least 2x a week and once a week I top rope - I don't have any other pair of climbing shoes. Ever since I bought the Thunder I have been wearing them EVERY DAY to climb. At first the shoe hurts but all accurately fit climbing shoes will, especially if you buy them for bouldering. Since I climb daily it didn't take long to stretch out, not much but a bit. I wear a size 7 to 7.5 US Women's street shoe and ordered a 37.5 (6.5) in Thunders. What I really like the most about these shoes is that it is very sticky and I can toe a lot of holds. As for the heel, I've read reviews where people say it's too high and leaves the bottom of the heel hollow but for me, they are just right. I feel confident heel hooking in these shoes. The shoe laces also allow for a tighter or looser fit depending on the climber. Because these shoes are not aggressive with a down-turn, they are also good for trad climbing. Feet don't hurt unless it is tied too tight. The lining really does minimize ordor as the Scarpas have not smelled as bad my Evolvs. It doesn't get too slick while climbing either. Easy to clean out with baking soda or dryer sheets. So far this shoe has stood up to the gym, outside on mossy & sandy boulders alike & the long routes of trad climbing. I highly recommend it as a beginner to intermediate shoe. Advanced to expert boulderers will definitely want a more aggressive arch in their shoes.
