If you are thinking of buying this reel for an 8 weight saltwater set-up, requiring lots of backing, don't. If you are seeking a lightweight reel for a saltwater 6 or 7 weight - great. Also might be a good freshwater fly reel for summer steelhead, e.g., on a lightweight 10' 5 or 6 weight switch or single hand fly rod.
Best Uses: 6 Or 7 Weight Rod Not 8, Back Up Reel For Salt

Would almost rate this reel above the Lamsons for robustness in the spool. It will stand a little more of the rough treatment such as drops. Good Drag that withtands saltwater use on Australian Salmon (Salt Water coastal pelagic) that have as much go as bonefish. Am using 6/7/8 as competition reel with 3 complete reels and 3 spare spools running 6 lines. Very easy to interchange spools quickly. Much quicker that cartridge systems in situations where time matters.

The reel is very well made. I expected it to be smaller in diameter. I will not use it with clients due to size. Best used on 7 or 8 weight, size is a little disproportionate to 6 weight. Overall I am pleased with my purchase.
