4.0 out of 5 stars. Better than pool noodles

I don't have a factory rack, so these are a great budget option. They are serviceable for non-highway speed driving with a canoe. I ditched the bumper hook straps right away - they might work, but having witnessed a canoe fly off a car on the freeway some time ago, I will always prefer ropes or non-stretch straps that go through my car's frame. The pads fit over our boats gunnels, and are good for protecting the car and canoe from scratching. Safety is limited only by the quality of your tie down job and wind speed. Im using them for shuttles at River take-out back to our racked trip car, and for in town trips to local water.

...but only barely. I used this on the roof on my Hyundai Accent. It sets up easily and certainly looks classier than a couple pool noodles wedged under the canoe. On an ~400 mile trip however, I had one of the blocks actually blow loose. Stability with 3 blocks and the three straps was still good, but it was a bit disconcerting. I believe the channels in the blocks on the car facing side are to accommodate rack bars, or something, but it'd be nice if there were a way to secure the blocks to the roof, and not just rely on the canoe to keep them in place. While everything seems solid, at freeway speeds gusts cause the canoe to move around a fair amount since the foam yields. I believe this allows the unweighting of some blocks and allows them to be blown loose. Still, for the BarnBurner price I paid, they're decent.
