“I bought the Sherpa Gear Dolma wool jacket for my wife. I was also considering getting her the Icebreaker 340 Jetter and the Westcomb Jamboree Wool jacket. Both of those wool jackets have windproof polyurethane membranes and retail for about $200 and $250 dollars repsectively. The Dolma is listed at [$], probably because it does not have a windproof laminate. The Icebreaker and Westcomb are also excellent jackets, but she tried them all and preferred the looks of the Dolma. The Dolma features a Singtex thermal fleece on the inside (which is also featured on the Sherpa Gear Lobutse jacket I own and which I've found regulates my body temperature excellently). The outer shell is made entirely of a nicely brushed, but stretchy, coarse wool. The jacket has an athletic cut, with longish, trim sleeves (though no interior cuffs), and an angel-wing cut. It also has a stand-up, fleece-lined collar. The body is trim, though the waist is cut a tad high. The jacket moves well despite the trim fit and she finds that it's warm (on a par with the Thermal Pro fleeces she owns). It also breathes better than membranes typically do and fits under a waterproof shell if it's wet outside. The other jackets can't be work under a shell because 2 membranes are too much! The only rap on it is that the pockets are mesh lined on the inside and fleece lined on the outside. Why do companies do this? N.B.: I own 2 pieces of Sherpa gear and my wife owns the Dolma jacket; at their price point, I've found them to be a viable alternative to a lot of the (much) more expensive name-brand performace gear featured on STP. That said, I've read several reviews complaining that their stuff is chintsy. I'd recommend trying something that appeals to you first before writing them off! Their product line might not be consistently good, but the Sherpa Gear I've bought is as good as The North Face, Marmot, Golite and other name brand stuff I own.”
