“I've never wanted to own one of those tents you see in the campgrounds. The type that look like a giant box. They require blue tarps over them to stay dry in a storm. I've always owned lightweight backpacking tents. The kind where the rainfly goes all the way down on the sides. My wife and I have two boys (3 and 1) now and so the time had come to find a bigger tent. I was looking for a tent I could use backpacking and car camping. I was set on the Sierra Designs Lighting XT 4 but chose the Moken 4 because of the price. (I'll buy the Lighting when Sierra Trading Post has it for sale) The moken has the design and look of a backpacking tent. This tent won't look like the rest of the tents at the campground and I'll stay dry in a storm without the blue tarp. At 23 lb this is not a backpacking tent and hence is very roomy when you enter, I'm 6' and can stand in the center. The floor is just a piece of nylon that extends under each of the side rooms a few inches but will do the job of keeping us off the dirt. If the tent is pitched on a high area there shouldn't be any concern of water flowing in the center of the tent. The doors of the side tents don't have a separate mesh door but there is mesh on the back sides of the rooms. There are many storage pockets around the tent. One downside is that the tent must staked very well at the four outside corners to make the tent taught. The build quality is very high. I'm very pleased with my purchase.”
